A mixture of (5-nitropyridin-2-yl)acetonitrile (930 mg), 3.5-6.5% palladium on carbon-ethylene diamine complex (93 mg) and EtOH (15 mL) was stirred under hydrogen atmosphere at room temperature for 8 hr.
The catalyst was removed by filtration, and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound (420 mg).
MS: [M+H]+ 134.0.
