General procedure for the synthesis of 2,5-Dialkyl-1-phenyl-1Hpyrrole-3-carboxylic acid (16a,b)
General procedure: The appropriate ethyl ester (5.8mmol) was refluxed for 3-4h in a mixture of aqueous 10% sodium hydroxide (20mL) and ethanol (20mL). After cooling, the solution was adjusted to pH 3 with aqueous 10% hydrochloric acid. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with H2O, dried under vacuum and used without further purification. 2,5-Dimethyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrrole-3-carboxylic acid (16a)
