Reaction Conditions:

Stage #1: ethyl 2-tert-butylthiazole-4-carboxylatewith lithium hydroxide monohydrate;lithium hydroxide monohydrate in tetrahydrofuran; for 16 h;
Stage #2: with hydrogenchloride in tetrahydrofuran;lithium hydroxide monohydrate;

Step (c) 2-tert-butylthiazole-4-carboxylic acidLithium hydroxide (2.8 g, 120.25 mmol) was added to a stirred mixture of ethyl 2-tert- butylthiazole-4-carboxylate (6.56 g, 30.76 mmol) in THF (100 mL) and water (40 mL). After 16h, HCl (62.5 mL, 125 mmol) was added and the solution concentrated to -40 mL. The reaction mixture was partitioned between EtOAc and brine. The aqueous layer was extracted wtih EtOAc (x3). The combined organic layers were dried over magnesium sulphate, filtered and evaporated in vacuo to give the sub-title compound as an off white/yellow solid. Yield:5.41g1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.16 (s, IH), 1.46 (s, 9H).MS: [M+H]+=186 (MultiMode+)
