4.2. Synthesis of secondary alcohols 2a-2f
General procedure: To a solution of the corresponding ketone 1 (1mmol) in THF (2 mL), water (0.06 mL) and NaBH4 (1.25mmol, 0.047 g) were added. The mixture was heated at reflux for 2 h. Then, the solution was diluted with water (10 mL) and THF was evaporated. The residue was extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were dried over MgSO4. The solvent was evaporated and crude products were purified by CC (SiO2, petroleum ether/ethyl acetate 8:2).
