A solution of 5-bromo-2-chloropyrimidine (1.0 g, 5.17 mmol) and diethylamine (2.13 mL, 20.68 mmol) in THF (5 mL) was stirred at 80 oC for 3 hrs. The mixture was cooled and concentrated to dryness to give the crude product, which was purified by chromatography (eluted with PE: EA = 100: 1) to give 5-bromo-N,N-diethylpyrimidin-2-amine (1.14 g, 95.8% yield) as a yellow solid. Retention time (LC-MS): 1.827 min. MH+ 231.
