j0202j To methyl 5-chlcropyrazine-2-carboxylate (2.00 g, 11.6 mmol) under nitrogen, was added a 0.5 M solution of sodium methoxide in methanol (27.8 mL, 13.9 mmol). The mixture was refluxed at 90 °C for 15 minutes. Water (80 mL) was added and the mixture extracted with ethyl acetate (2 x 100 mL). The combined organic extracts were dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to give the title compound 1.68 g (79% yield) as a white pcwder. 6NMR (500 MHz, chloroform) 8.88 (d, J 1.2 Hz, lH), 8.28 (d, J 1.2 Hz, 1H), 4.05 (s, 3H), 4.00 (s, 3H). Tr(METCR1278) = 1.23 mm, (ES) (M+H) 169.
