Step 3; 2-Allyloxymethyl-1-(2-chloro-ethoxy)-4-nitro-benzene; To a mixture of [2-(2-chloro-ethoxy)-5-nitro-phenyl]-methanol (2 g, 8.63 mmol) and allyl bromide (2.99ml, 34.52 mmol) at ambient temperature was added KOH (2.98 ml,34.52 mmol) and TBAI (159mg, 17.26 mmol) and the resulting mixture was stirred at 400C overnight. The reaction mixture was cooled and quenched with H2O. The product was extracted with CH2CI2 thrice and the combined organic extracts were washed with H2O followed by brine, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated under reduced pressure to furnish an oil, which was purified by column (EtOAc/Hexane: 9/1) to obtain 2.1g of 2- allyloxymethyl-1-(2-chloro-ethoxy)-4-nitro-benzene in 89% yield. LC-MS (ESI positive mode) m/z 272 ([M+H]+).
