2.2.3. Synthesis of compounds 4a and 4b
General procedure: A solution of compound 3a (5g, 14.8 mmol) or 3b (3.5g, 12.2 mmol), in a mixture of EtOH (25 mL) and aq. KOH (3 M, 25 mL) was heated for 4h at 90 °C, before it was allowed to reach RT. The organic solvent was removed under reduced pressure, and the aqueous solution was then acidified (pH 1) with HCl (6 M). The resulting white precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with H 2 O (100 ml), and dried under vacuum for 24 h to afford com- pounds 4a and 4b in quantitative yield.
