To a 5 liter reaction flask was added 815.0 g (5.0 mol) of 2,4-dichlorophenol, 787.5 g (5.25 mol) of butyl chloroacetate and 870 g (15.0 mol) of potassium fluoride, and 10.0 g of polyethylene glycol dimethyl ether. 0.41 g of potassium iodide was mixed and stirred, and the temperature was maintained at 120 °C. After the reaction was maintained for 24 h, the content of 2,4-dichlorophenol was monitored by HPLC to be less than 0.01%. The reaction was stopped, cooled, and filtered to obtain 1395. g of butyl 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetate, purity 98.0%, yield 99.0. %. The free phenol content was 75 ppm.
