General procedure for the preparation of 4
General procedure: Compounds 4 was prepared following a previously reported methodology.[3] Compounds 2 (8 g, 22.8 mmol) was added to a stirring mixture of the corresponding benzaldehyde (21.8 mmol) in dichloromethane (25 ml) and the resulting solution was stirred at room temperature for 16 h. The solvent was evaporated and the resulting residue dissolved in 50 mL hexane/Et2O (9:1). The mixture was then stirred for another 15 min and filtered. The filtrate was evaporated and the residue subjected to flash chromatography with hexane/Et2O (7:3) to afford the corresponding compound 4.
