Reaction Conditions:

with potassium permanganate absorbed on copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate (1:3) for 0.15 h;Microwave irradiation;Green chemistry;Time;Temperature;

Steps:

Oxidation of dibutyldisulfide into the corresponding thiosulfonates by PP/3CSP under solvent-freereaction conditions assisted by microwave irradiation (Method A)
General procedure: A pertinent quantity of finely ground PP/3CSP (6 mmol, 5.45 g) was added to a test tube (h = 20.0 cm, d = 3.0 cm) containing also the disulfide (1.5 mmol). The test tube was placed into a beaker available in the microwave oven. For each of the disulfides, an irradiation programme was applied to determine the most efficient reaction conditions (with respect to maximum yield of product, most convenient irradiation power (W), and the shortest reaction time (minutes)), see Table 1. For every experiment, the temperature of the reaction mixture was measured immediately after reaction stop. After cooling, the reaction mixture was stirred with 50 mL of chloroform during 30 min and then filtered through a 2 cm layer of celite. Subsequently, the solvent was removed from the extract by rotational evaporation, and the remaining crude product was analyzed by GC/MS and NMR spectroscopy. Finally, the thiosulfonate was purified by flash column chromatography (7 g silica gel, Davisil, grade 710, 4-20 μm, 60 A, 99%) using as eluent a mixture of hexane and dichloromethane.
