A mixture of methyl 4-oxotetrahydrothiophene-3-carboxylate (2.3 g, 14.37 mmol) and NH2OHHC1 (1.2 g, 17.25 mmol) in MeOH (40 mL) was stirred under reflux for 1 h, quenched with saturated NaHCO3 (200 mL) and extracted with EA (100 mL x 3). The combined organic phases were dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford methyl 4-aminothiophene-3-carboxylate (2.1 g, 93%) as a light yellow oil. LC15 MS m/z: 158.0 [M+H]+ tR= 1.44 mm
