Method for the synthesis of ethyl [(2,6-dimethylphenyl)amino]acetate (2b)
Ethyl[(2,6-dimethylphenyl)amino]acetate (2b) was obtained by stirring a mixture of 2,6-dimethylaniline (1) (0.1 mol; 12.2 g ~ 12.5 ml) and ethylbromoacetate (0.2 mol; ~33.0 ml) and anhydrous sodium acetatetrihydrate in ethanol for 6 h, as a creamy solid. This method of synthesis is somewhat faster than the reportedmethod mentioned earlier in which ethylchloroacetate was taken [3]. Yield 72%; M.p. 142-144 °C (found) and140 °C (reported) [3].
