EXAMPLE 1 10.0 g. (0.066 mole) of p-(N-methyl)-aminobenzoic acid was boiled under reflux free of water in 100 ml of formic acid for 3 hrs., and then evaporated to dryness. The reaction product, p-(N-methyl-N-formyl)-aminobenzoic acid, can be isolated in pure form (white crystals having a melting point of 218° C.) by suspension in water or preferably by reprecipitation in water or preferably by reprecipitation by means of NaOH/HCl at 97 percent yield.
