Formic acid synthesis

11synthesis methods
Formic acid is manufactured as a by-product of the liquidphase oxidation of hydrocarbons to acetic acid. It is also produced by (a) treating sodium formate and sodium acid formate with sulfuric acid at low temperatures followed by distillation or (b) direct synthesis from water and CO2 under pressure and in the presence of catalysts.

Yield:64-18-6 99%

Reaction Conditions:

with CeO2#CuO;oxygen in lithium hydroxide monohydrate at 120; under 4500.45 Torr; for 10 h;Irradiation;Temperature;Pressure;Reagent/catalyst;

Steps:

1-29; 37-41 Example 8

Disperse 10mmol glycerol and 50mg 1mol% CuO/CeO2 in 25mL water, add magnet, replace with oxygen three times and keep the pressure at 0.6Mpa, irradiate the reaction with visible light of 200mW/cm2 wavelength of 455nm at 120 for 10h,After the reaction was completed, it was quantified by HPLC, the conversion rate of glycerol was 100%, and the yield of formic acid was 99%.
