General procedure: 1-fluoro-2-nitrobenzene (1.0 mmol) was used as a feedstock, and tributylphosphine (PBu3, 2.0 mmol), palladium acetate (Pd(OAc)2, 2 mol%), and potassium carbonate/zirconium oxide (K2CO3/ZrO2, 1.5 equiv, based on K2CO3, 2.070 g) were added in xylene (10 mL). The mixture was stirred at reflux under nitrogen protection for 24 hours or until TLC showed that the reaction was complete. After completion of the reaction, the mixture was filtered and washed with dichloromethane (DCM). The organic layers were combined and the solvent was removed by evaporation. The product was purified by column chromatography using dichloromethane/hexane (1:1 to 1:2) as eluent to give the target product 2,2'-oxobis(nitrobenzene). | [References]
