To a 250 mL three-necked flask, add o-bromothiophenol (18.9 g, 0.1 mol), 75 mL of water, and 75 mL of dichloromethane. Stir with chlorine gas and react at 5-10 °C for 1 h. Dilute the mixture with 300 mL of dichloromethane, wash with cold 5% sodium bicarbonate solution (2 × 50 mL), wash with water (3 × 100 mL), dry to anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and concentrate to give a yellow solid. mp 50-51 °C, yield: 90%. |
