Penicillin V potassium is an oral active antibiotic. It can inhibit the growth of streptococcus, Clostridium difficile and Staphylococcus aureus, and can be used in the study of otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis and tonsillitis.

Penicillin V potassium is a penicillin antibiotic. The antibacterial spectrum is the same as that of penicillin. It has antibacterial activity against most gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative bacteria, some Gram-negative bacteria (such as Haemophilus), spirochaeta and actinomyces, but most staphylococcus strains (> 90%) including Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase negative staphylococcus can produce beta lactamase to hydrolyze and inactivate this product. The activity of this product against most sensitive strains is 2 to 5 times weaker than that of penicillin. There was no antibacterial effect on penicillinase producing strains.
