What symptoms is loratadine used to treat?

Loratadine is an antihistamine that reduces the action of the natural chemical histamine in the body. It is used to treat allergy symptoms, including a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, tearing, and itching of the eyes, nose, or throat. In addition, loratadine is used for the temporary relief of hay fever (allergy to pollen, dust, or other substances in the air). Loratadine is also used to treat itching and redness caused by hives. However, loratadine does not prevent hives or other allergic skin reactions.

Loratadine is not as safe as desloratadine and is prone to side effects. Common side effects include: headache; feeling tired or drowsy; stomach ache, vomiting; dry mouth, etc. In severe cases, there may be: rapid or uneven heart rate, severe headache, dizziness and lightheadedness.
