n-methylpyrrolidine was successfully synthesized in an aqueous medium by using methylamine and 1,4-dibromobutane in the presence of catalyst k2co3 at a moderated temperature. here, n-methylpyrrolidine was firstly synthesized via the green chemistry process, in which both the water solvent and potassium carbonate catalyst were inexpensive and environmentally friendly. also, the reaction temperature was quite moderated at 90°C.

EXAMPLE 3 50 g per hour of a mixture of 40% by weight of pyrrolidine and 60% by weight of methanol, which has been vaporized at 165° C, is reacted at 190° C in the apparatus described in Example 1. Conversion is 93% and the yield of N-methylpyrrolidine reaches 89% based on pyrrolidine reacted.
