Trifluoromethanesulfonic anhydride (3.0 mL, 18.9 mmol) was added to a solution of 2-methoxyphenol (2 g, 16.2 mmol) in pyridine (40 mL) at 0°C, and then the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. After adding AcOEt and brine, organic layers were dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The resulting crude product was purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel (Toluene/AcOEt =30/1) to give compound 6 was a colorless liquid (4.12 g, quant.). 1H NMR (CDCl3, 400 MHz) : δ7.34-7.20 (m, 2H, Ph), 7.03 (dd, J = 8.23, 1.37 Hz, 1H, Ph), 6.97 (td, J = 7.31, 1.37 Hz, 1H, Ph), 3.91 (s, 3H, Me) ; 13C NMR (CDCl3, 100 MHz) : δ151.4, 138.8, 129.2, 122.4, 120.9, 113.1, 56.1.
