Steps:

1 Synthesis of Intermediate 1a

4-methoxysalicylic aldehyde (0.0293 mol, 4.45 g) was added to a 50 mL three-necked round bottom flask containing 15 mL of ethanol. After stirring well, the mixture was heated to 35° C. to dissolve all the reactants in ethanol. Then hexahydropyridine (0.01 mol, 1 mL) and ethyl acetoacetate (0.036 mol, 4.68 g) were added, and the reaction mixture was heated to reflux, and the reaction was carried out for 1 hour under stirring. After the reaction was completed, the mixture was cooled to room temperature, filtered to obtain a yellow solid, which was then recrystallized with ethanol to obtain 6.2 g of the product with a yield of 97%, which was identified as compound 1a. 1H-NMR (400 MHz, CDCl₃) δ 2.70 (s, 3H), 3.91 (s, 3H), 6.82 (d, 1H), 6.88 (d, 1H), 7.55 (d, 1H), 8.48 (s, 1H).
