Polyphosphoric acid (20 g) was added to 2-amino-5-methylbenzenethiol (2.03 g, 14.58 mmol)and 4-aminobenzoic acid (1.99 g, 14.51 mmol) in a mixture,Heated at 220°C for 4 hours.The reaction was monitored by TLC.After the reaction was completed, it was cooled to ambient temperature, and the reaction mixture was slowly poured into ice-cold aqueous sodium carbonate (10% w/v),Stir until gas evolution ceases.The precipitated product was collected by filtration, washed with water, and the residue was partitioned and extracted between ethyl acetate and water.The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, concentrated in vacuo, and the crude product was purified by silica gel column chromatography (PE:EA=4:1, v/v),The title compound was obtained as a brown solid (3.14 g, yield: 90%).
