[00435] A mixture of l, l-dimethoxy-4-methylpentan-3-one (1.6 g, 10.0 mmol) in 10 mL of 0.27 M HCl aquous solution was stirred at 90 °C for 10 min followed by the addition of 8 mL of EtOAc. The organic phase was separated dried over Na2S04, and filtered. The filtrate was used for the next step directly as a solution of 4-methyl-3-oxopentanal.
