Bis(4-fluorophenyl)-methanone synthesis

14synthesis methods
Bis(4-fluorophenyl)-methanone is used as an imaging agent and charge control agent for optical and electrical recording materials, as an initiator for certain polymerisation reactions and as a monomeric material for many copolymers. It can be synthesised by the reaction of 1-Fluoro-4-iodobenzene and 4-Fluorobenzeneboronic acid.

Yield:345-92-6 99%

Reaction Conditions:

with tert.-butylhydroperoxide;vanadia in water at 100; for 6 h;

Steps:

4.2. Typical experimental procedure for oxidation of azides to acid

General procedure: To a well-stirred suspension of azide (1 mmol) and V2O5 (1, 0.05 mmol) in water (1 mL) was added aq TBHP (70%, 5 mmol). The reaction mixture was heated at reflux until the completion of the reaction (monitored by TLC). The reaction mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (3×10 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4 and evaporated under vacuum to furnish crude acid, which was purified on a silica gel column (EtOAc/hexane). In case of problem in isolating acids, the solvent was evaporated under vacuum and the crude residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (EtOAc/hexane).
