GALDEN (TM) HT70 Chemical Properties,Uses,Production

Uses

It is used in applications include pump and compressor cleaning, degreasing, dewatering, vapor blanketing, flash point reduction, and trace residue elimination. It acts as a diluent in the application of more viscous PFPE fluids and greases.

Uses

perfluoropolymethylisopropylether is used to stabilize emulsions, reduce skin moisture loss, and provide a product with a silky texture.

Uses

GALDEN (TM) HT70 is a high performance lubricant for textile, bearing, and corrosive environment applications.

Synthesis

The preparation of perfluoropolyether PFPE lubricants is accomplished through the polymerization of perfluorinated monomers, based on the monomers used and the different polymerization methods, can be produced K-type, Y-type, Z-type, D-type four different molecular structures of PFPE.
The first one is K-type, which is a series of branched polymers formed by the polymerization of hexafluoropropylene (HFP) oxide under the action of catalyst CsF, with the structural formula: CF3CFCF2O[CF(CF3)CF2O]nCF(CF3)COF.
The second type is Y-type, which is a polymer formed by photo-oxidation of hexafluoropropylene under the action of ultraviolet light, with the structural formula: CF3O(C3F6O-)P(-CF2O-)QCF3, and the average molecular weight of the commonly used Y-type is generally between 103-104.
The third type is Z-type, which is prepared similarly to Y-type, and is a straight-chain polymer formed by photo-oxidation of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) under the action of ultraviolet light, with the structural formula: CF3O(C2F4O-)m(-CF2O-)MCF3, and the average molecular weights of the commonly used Z-types are generally in the range of 103-105.
The fourth type is D-type, which is a polymer obtained by direct fluorination of the polymerization product of tetrafluorooxetane, with the structural formula: C3F7O(CF2CF2CF2O)xC2F5.
Currently, there are 2 main methods for the preparation of perfluoropolyethers: direct photo-oxidation of perfluoroolefins and anionic polymerization of perfluorinated epoxides.

Toxics Screening Level

The ITSL for fomblin perfluorpolyether has been changed from 0.04 μg/m3 to 0.1 μg/m3 based on an annual averaging time.
