1-lsopropyl-1 H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid methyl ester Propan-2-amine (27.4 ml, 322 mmol) was added to a solution of (Z)-1-(dimethylamino)-3- methoxy-N-methylidyne-3-oxoprop-1 -en-2-aminium (5 g, 32.2 mmol) in n-BuOH (50 ml). The flask was sealed and heated to 120°C for 5 hr. The solvent was evaporated. The crude was taken up in EtOAc and washed with water and brine. The water phase was back extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic phase was dried over Na2S04 and evaporated to afford 6.5 g (30.9 mmol, 96% yield) of the title compound as a black oil. LCMS: (M+H) = 169; tR = 0.34 min (LC-MS 1 ). 1 H-NM R (d6-DMSO, 400 MHz) δ ppm 8.00 (d, 1 H) 7.82 (d, 1 H) 4.44 (quin, 1 H) 3.71 (s, 3H) 1.39 (d, 6H)
