4.3. Typical procedure for the synthesis of 5
General procedure: A mixture of 4-methylbenzenesulfonyl chloride 4a (0.5 mmol), N,N-dimethylaniline 2a (1.5 mmol), KMnO4 (2 equiv.) and CH3CN (2.0 mL) was placed in a 25 mL reaction straight tube under air atmosphere. The tube was then placed in an oil bath, stirred and heated at 50 °C for 6 h. After cooling to room temperature, the system was flushed to Sand core funnel using dichloroethane (rinsing three times, VDCM < 50 mL), Vacuum filtration, and the volatile solvent was removed in vacuo. The crude product wa spurified over a column of silica gel (ethyl acetate/petroleum ether 1:20) to afford the white solid.
