2-Phenylpropionic acid is prepared:
1) from Benzyl cyanide by Metbylation with
Methyl iodide and Sodamide to produce alpha-Phenylpropionitrile, from which the
acid is produced by acid hydrolysis.
2) from Acetophenone cyanhydrin with Hydriodic
