KOH (48.3 mmol, 2.71 g) was added to a solution of cyclopropylacetonitrile (12.1 mmol, 980 mg) in EtOH/H2O (1:1, 15 mL). The resulting reaction mixture was stirred at 90°C for 18 hours. The pH of the reaction mixture was adjusted to 1 with hydrochloric acid (1 mol/L, 50 mL). The solution was extracted with MTBE (2 × 20 mL), the combined organic layers (MgSO4) were dried, filtered, and the solvent was evaporated.  |
