Diisobutyl succinate synthesis

4synthesis methods
-

Yield: 98.9%

Reaction Conditions:

in chloroform-d1

Steps:

1 Synthesis of Isobutyl Succinate
Example 1 Synthesis of Isobutyl Succinate Into a 100 mL pear-shaped round bottom flask, succinic anhydride (25 g, 250 mmol) was weighed and added. Approximately 5 mL of isobutyl alcohol was added at first. The flask was fit with a condenser and drying tube while the solution stirred magnetically. An oil bath was heated ~120° C. and the flask was placed into it. The starting material melted and the solution began refluxing. Over the next 30 minutes, 20 mL of isobutyl alcohol was added slowly. After the reaction was complete, the final solution was evaporated to dryness in vacuo and placed under vacuum to remove any traces of unreacted alcohol. 1H-NMR in CDCl3 showed the product to be 98.9% pure and the yield was quantitative.
